If we cancel or change a trip
We may cancel or change a trip if weather, sea state, tides, fog, wildlife closures or guide illness make it unsafe or unsuitable. Land trips go ahead in rain and fog unless the National Weather Service issues a warning for our area. Water trips are checked the evening before and again in the morning, and do not run under a small craft advisory.
If we cancel, you choose between a free move to another date or a full refund within 7 days. We are not responsible for travel or lodging costs, so we recommend trip insurance if you are traveling a long way.
Safety, release forms and your responsibilities
- Follow your guide's instructions at all times. The guide may refuse to take, or ask to leave, anyone who puts themselves or others at risk.
- Tell us about any medical condition, allergy or mobility need that may affect you on the trip. This is kept confidential, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- All participants on kayak and snorkel trips sign a release of liability and assumption of risk form before the trip, signed by a parent or guardian for minors.
- For water trips, every participant must be able to swim 50 yards and must not have consumed alcohol or cannabis.
- Wear the clothing and footwear listed in your confirmation email.
Kids
Minimum ages are 3 for tide pool safaris, 6 for walks, 8 for kayaking and 12 for snorkeling. Kids under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who stays with them throughout, except on school trips, where the school's chaperone ratio applies.
Liability and insurance
We carry $2 million in general liability insurance. Outdoor activities carry inherent risks, such as slips on wet granite, insect and tick bites, cold water and sudden changes in weather, which we manage but cannot remove entirely. To the extent permitted by Maine law, we are not liable for injury or loss arising from those inherent risks, or for loss of personal belongings, unless caused by our negligence. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Photos
Guides may take photos during trips to send to your group. We only use photos in which you can be identified on our website or social media with your written permission. Tell your guide on the day if you would rather not be photographed.
Complaints and governing law
If you are unhappy with any part of your trip, please tell your guide on the day or contact us within 30 days and we will respond within 14 days. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine.
