This website
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the standard referenced for websites under the Americans with Disabilities Act. In practice that means:
- text and buttons meet a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1;
- every page can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline and a "skip to content" link;
- all meaningful images have text descriptions;
- forms have visible labels and clear error messages;
- animations are switched off if your device is set to reduce motion;
- pages work when zoomed to 200% and on small screens.
Known issues
The horizontal landscape gallery on the home page scrolls sideways on large screens. On small screens, and when reduced motion is on, it shows as a simple vertical list. Some older journal photos have shorter descriptions than we would like, and we are reviewing them.
The shop
Our shop at 17 Harbor Lane, Bar Harbor, ME 04609, United States has a ramp entrance, and all stock is on the ground floor. There is seating by the counter, and we are happy to bring items to you or meet you at your car if you call ahead. Service animals are always welcome.
Guided trips
The outdoors is not always level, but we work hard to include everyone. Our Spring Warbler Morning and Dawn Bird Walk use firm, mostly level paths. We run private trips on Acadia's carriage roads, which are wide, graded and suitable for many wheelchairs and strollers, and can arrange all-terrain wheelchair use through a local partner on selected routes. US citizens and permanent residents with a permanent disability can get a free National Park Service Access Pass. Please call us to talk through your needs before booking.
